Kershaw Ken Onion Leek Knife

Article by John Delaney

The Kershaw Ken Onion Leek Knife is my favorite pocket knife ever, and I have had and used many, many pocket knives over the years! It is a very high quality knife that is extremely well designed and loaded with great features. Here are the ones that I like the best.

First, and this is important for any knife, the Kershaw Leek knife has a 3 inch blade that can "hold its edge" for a long, long time. I have had pocket knives in the past that looked great but that couldn't hold their edge. I'm sure you have to, and if you were like me, you didn't keep those pocket knives very long.

Second, you can open and close the Kershaw Leek with just one hand. I haven't been able to say that about many of the pocket knives I have had. In order to open most pocket knives, you have to put down whatever you are holding, and then use one hand to hold the pocket knife and use the other hand to open the blade. With the Kershaw Leek pocket knife, all you have to do is make sure the lock to hold the tip of the blade in place is not set (just move the sliding screw toward the end of the knife with your thumb to free the blade tip) and then use your fingernail to pull down on the protuberance that sticks out on the side of the pocket knife and the blade will "spring" open. Note: This is not a switchblade knife. When you pull down on the protuberance on the side of the knife with your fingernail, you are manually overcoming the knife's torsion bar's resistance and this causes the blade to fully open and lock in place.

Once you are through using the Kershaw Leek and want to close the blade, all you have to do (again just with one hand) is use your fingernail to push the blade locking mechanism to the side and then push the rear side of the blade against anything to close the blade. Really easy and simple to do!

Third, once the Kershaw Leek pocket knife's blade is locked open, it is securely locked in place. You won't have to worry about it closing unexpectedly on one of your fingers or your hand while you are cutting something.

Fourth, the size and weight of the Kershaw Leek is the ideal size and weight you want in a pocket knife. The knife is 4 inches long (with a 3 inch blade), about 1/2 inch in diameter, and weighs only 3 ounces. Not too big, not too small, not too wide, and not too heavy!

Finally, the knife has a solid stainless steel clasp that you can use to secure your knife inside a shirt or pants pocket if you want and also a small hole on the end of the knife that you can use to attach it to a key chain if you prefer. As I said before, this is a really well designed knife!

If you need a new or better pocket knife, I strongly recommend that you consider the Kershaw Ken Onion Leek Knife. (Ken Onion is the master knife maker who designed the Leek Knife.)
